Jesse Rogerson

I’m a professor at York University, where I teach astronomy and space-based science to students from across the university, many of whom are not science majors. My courses include introductory astronomy, the history of astronomy, and exploring the solar system.

My research focuses on quasars: supermassive black holes, billions of light-years away, that are actively feeding on the gas around them. As they feed, they become some of the brightest objects in the universe, which lets us study them across enormous distances and learn how black holes and galaxies grow together.

Outside the classroom, I regularly give public talks, take part in community events, and comment on astronomy and space science stories in the media. Journalists and event organizers are welcome to get in touch by email.
